Departure from Japan
Get ready for departure and apply for international/official health certificate
Although Japan is a rabies-free country, further vaccinations or tests may be required depending on the import conditions of the destination country.

Export quarantine inspection with the Animal Quarantine Service (AQS) must be reserved at least 10 days prior to departure date.
After preparing the necessary documents, it’s needed to visit the quarantine inspection center on reservation date.
Once the government veterinarian completes the document review and clinical examination, international health certificate can be issued.

Enter in Japan
If you are bringing a pet to Japan from overseas, import regulation will be different depending on departure country.
If departure country is a designated region by Japan (Iceland, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji Island, Hawaii, Guam), microchip implantation and advance notification are required.
But if departure country is a non-designated region by Japan, the pet should be microchipped, have two rabies vaccinations and get rabies antibody test (the result should be 0.5 IU/ml or higher) through the approved laboratory.
And 180 days waiting period is needed after blood sampling date. Advance notification at least 40 days before entry is required as well.
